1. Who the app is for
LightUp Education is a school-managed education and administration service operated by River Sand Labs Private Limited. It is intended for authorized school administrators, teachers, staff, parents, guardians and students.
Schools are onboarded under an agreement. School administrators create or authorize user accounts and distribute credentials. It is not an unrestricted public social network or an anonymous chat app. Access and features depend on the school and the user’s role.
2. Student use and adult involvement
Students use the service as part of their school’s arrangements. The school and, where required, a parent or guardian must authorize a child’s participation and provide appropriate guidance. Younger students may need an adult’s help understanding messages, uploads, privacy choices and how to report a concern.
Student records such as age or date of birth support school administration. This page does not represent that every user’s age is independently verified by the mobile app. Schools must apply the admission, consent and access requirements relevant to their students.
3. Features parents and schools should consider
- School information: class schedules, attendance, assignments, results and other records appropriate to the user’s role.
- Messaging and uploads: school conversations and user-provided content may contain text, photographs, documents or other supported attachments. Group access is managed by authorized school personnel.
- AI-assisted features: where enabled, AI may assist with searches, drafts or learning content. Outputs can be incorrect or unsuitable; adults and school personnel should review important results and assess suitability before allowing student use.
- Fees and payments: the school controls its charges and payment arrangements. Payments should be handled by a parent, guardian or authorized adult unless the school’s arrangements and applicable law permit otherwise.
- Attendance and transport: location-enabled staff/crew activities and school transport records can contain sensitive information. Viewing a bus does not itself require tracking a parent’s or child’s phone.
- Links and school content: externally hosted resources and documents may have their own content and privacy practices. The school should review material it makes available to students.
4. Guidance for parents, guardians and schools
- Use the school-issued account appropriate to the person and do not share login credentials or authenticator codes.
- Ask the school which features a student can access, who can contact them, and who can see their records.
- Explain that children should not share passwords, verification codes, unnecessary identity documents or sensitive personal details in messages or AI prompts.
- Review privacy settings, notification previews and permissions on a shared device.
- Report inappropriate content, unexpected contacts, incorrect school/child records or suspected unauthorized access promptly.
- Use school-approved alternatives when a feature is unsuitable, inaccessible or unavailable.
The school’s oversight and account-role controls should not be interpreted as a guarantee that every uploaded or AI-generated item is appropriate for every age. No automatic age-based content filter or parental-control dashboard is promised by this page.
5. App Store age rating
The age rating displayed on the App Store is based on the app’s declared capabilities and content and may differ by region. This page supplies additional context; it does not replace, lower or override that rating.
School-authorized use and applicable consent requirements remain relevant even when the store rating permits installation. An educational purpose alone does not mean the application is listed in Apple’s Kids Category.
