Your Privacy Choices

Practical ways to ask about your school information and manage privacy-related settings.

Last updated: 5 October 2026

1. Make a privacy request

You can contact your school or email admin@riversandlabs.com to ask about your information. You do not need to sign in to read this page or contact us.

These links open your email app with a subject. They do not automatically submit a request or change your account. If you do not use an email app, write directly to the address above.

What to include

  • Your school’s name and your role, such as parent, guardian, student, teacher or staff.
  • The email associated with your account, if available, and the type of request.
  • A brief description of the information or correction involved. For a child’s records, identify the relevant school/student reference only as needed.

Do not send passwords, authenticator codes, payment-card details, identity documents, medical records or unrelated bank statements in your initial email. If further verification is needed, ask for an appropriate secure channel.

We may verify your identity or authority and coordinate with the school, which generally determines the use and retention of official school records. We respond within the timeframe required by applicable law and explain any lawful restrictions. Contact us directly if the school is unavailable or you need assistance identifying the responsible institution.

2. Access and correct your information

You may ask for access to information about you, an available copy, or correction of information that is inaccurate or incomplete. Rights and the format of a response depend on applicable law and the nature of the records.

Changes to a student’s name, admission details, family relationships, custody arrangements, attendance, grades or fees generally need school review. Viewing or editing information in the portal is limited to your authorized role. A privacy request does not grant access to another person’s records.

3. Request account closure or data deletion

Ask the school or our privacy contact to delete your login account and personal information that no longer needs to be kept. Tell us whether you want account closure, deletion of specific information, or both. A deletion request is different from temporary deactivation.

The school and platform may need to retain particular financial, statutory education, safeguarding, security or dispute records. We consider the applicable purpose and obligation rather than treating all school information as exempt from deletion. Retention limits and the effect on portal access can be explained as part of the response.

  • Uninstalling the app does not itself delete an account or official school records.
  • Removing a school from the mobile app is not an account-deletion request.
  • Deleting login access does not cancel school enrollment, tuition liability or a valid financial obligation.
  • Data removed from active systems may remain in protected backups until the applicable backup cycle expires.

This page provides a contact route for requests. It does not claim that a self-service deletion screen or immediate automatic deletion is available in every version of the app.

4. Choices for parents, guardians and students

Parents and guardians can ask about a child’s school information and applicable consent choices, subject to verified authority, custody restrictions and relevant law. A school may need to confirm who is authorized to make a request or receive the records.

A student can contact the school or us for help understanding their information and available rights. Where adult authorization is needed, we explain the appropriate next step. School-managed access is not blanket permission for unrelated use of a child’s information.

5. Manage camera, microphone, photos and location

Permission-dependent features may ask to use a camera, selected photos/files, microphone or location. Only use a feature if you understand its purpose.

On iPhone or iPad

Open device Settings, find LightUp Education in the app settings, or use Privacy & Security to review the relevant permission. Available options depend on your iOS version and permissions the app has requested.

On Android

Open Settings → Apps → LightUp Education → Permissions and change the relevant permission. Names and options may vary by device.

Location is used by enabled school attendance and transport features. Staff/crew location may be relevant to a check-in or trip; viewing a bus does not itself require tracking the parent’s or child’s phone. Refusing or revoking permission can stop the affected feature from working. Ask your school about an approved alternative where needed.

Revoking a device permission controls future access under that setting. It does not automatically erase location, photographs or other records previously sent to the school. Use the request options above for existing records.

6. Manage notifications and school links

You can turn notifications off or change previews, sounds and available school channels in your device’s notification settings for LightUp Education. This may prevent you from receiving reminders; arrange an appropriate alternative with the school for important notices.

The app uses a device installation identity and push token for delivery, with links to authorized school accounts. Where the app offers “remove school”, removing that school detaches its association from that installation; other schools and their records are not automatically removed.

Notification preferences, school unlinking and deletion of personal information are separate actions. Contact us if you need help with a device association or continuing notifications.

7. Discuss consent and AI processing

Ask the school or our privacy contact about AI features, information shared with third-party providers, and available restrictions. Where processing relies on your consent, you may request to withdraw it; applicable school duties or another lawful basis can affect processing that continues.

There is no universal AI opt-out switch asserted on this page. While a request is being discussed, avoid submitting information to an optional AI feature you do not want to use. Information already processed may require a separate access or deletion request.

General app terms are not blanket permission for undisclosed third-party AI sharing. An explanation in a policy or this page does not replace any explicit permission required before such sharing.

8. Questions, concerns and further information

Read the Privacy Policy for information about data categories, providers, retention, transfers and security. Read the Terms & Conditions for school-authorized use and account responsibilities.

If a response does not resolve your concern, contact us again with the request reference and issue. You retain any right available under applicable law to contact a relevant privacy regulator or other competent authority.
